Loki reached the final round of the 2022/23 Hungarian championship knowing that if they could win against Újpest at home in front of thousands of supporters and an incredible atmosphere, they would secure the bronze medal and return to the international stage after many years. The important clash was preceded by celebratory moments as Balázs Dzsudzsák, who was absent from the starting eleven due to a wrist fracture, received the Zilahi Award for the best player of the season for DVSC, while Debsport awarded Dorian Babunski for being the top scorer.
At the beginning of the match, the opponent’s goalkeeper saved Dusan Lagator’s slide, and then in the 12th minute, Banai blocked Stefan Loncar’s shot. In the 15th minute, Loki was awarded a free kick from 17 meters out but Ádám Bódi’s curling shot deflected off the defensive wall, after which the goalkeeper caught Kevin Varga’s second attempt. The pace was good, with both teams trying to press and attack each other.
In the second part of the first half, a fierce battle continued but then the goal came for Debrecen. In the 26th minute, after János Ferenczi’s corner from the long side, Meldin Dreskovic headed the ball across the goal and Dusan Lagator, who made a run into the box, nodded it into the net from 6 meters out (1-0). So, the eagerly awaited lead was achieved, which our team managed to maintain until halftime. In fact, in the 39th minute, Stefan Loncar almost doubled the lead but Banai saved it. It’s significant to note that the shots on target ratio in the first half was 7-0…
Márk Szécsi arrived for the second half, and in the 47th minute, DVSC threatened with a shot from Ádám Bódi but the goalkeeper punched the ball away. The second Debrecen goal was brewing, but with only a one-goal lead, the team needed to stay focused. However, the second goal came soon enough! In the 53rd minute, after a cross from the left side, Dorian Babunski headed towards goal, the goalkeeper of Újpest made a save but Christian Manrique made great use of the rebound (2-0).
In the 62nd minute, Ádám Bódi narrowly missed again with a shot from 15 meters that just missed the bottom left corner. Loki played well and controlled the match, creating a great atmosphere in the stadium. In the final minutes, Alexandros Kyziridis and Antonio Mance came on as substitutes (followed by Balázs Dzsudzsák and Donát Bárány towards the end) and the audience celebrated the team.
The final minutes brought no more goals but DVSC confidently won against Újpest. The team earned the bronze medal and the right to participate in the Conference League. Great job guys!

DVSC extended the contract of Srdjan Blagojevic and his coaching staff (Sasa Semeredi, Dejan Fijala) for two more years, until 2025. The Serbian head coach signed for Loki at the end of September last year, and under his leadership, our team’s performance is excellent and it is becoming better and better. Since the arrival of Srdjan Blagojevic, DVSC has 14 victories, 5 draws and only 6 defeats in 25 championship games, so the team managed to get to the forefront.

If Loki wins, the team will finish on the podium for sure and will participate in international cups. The head coach of our team, Srdjan Blagojevic talked about his expectations:
– It was before the game against Ferencváros when I first mentioned that we are fighting for the podium. We won against FTC and now we will continue our fight for the medal. At the same time, we are aware of the fact that a very difficult job is in front of us. Even though the season for Újpest hasn’t gone the way they expected, we are up against a very good team. We played against them two times this season, we had one victory and a draw. From these games, it became obvious that our opponent is really strong and, in some moments, we were also lucky. We are expecting a demanding game on Saturday. There’s pressure on the team but all of us dreamed about achieving this. We want to win!
DVSC extended the contract of Balázs Megyeri for 2+1 years. The 33-year-old goalkeeper has been defending the goal of Loki during 18 championship and 2 cup games this season, and he has a clean sheet regarding the last 5 matches (he didn’t play against FTC until the end).
The excellent goalkeeper has previously made his debut in the national team as well. He won a bronze medal in the U20 World Cup and has been a five-time Greek champion with Olympiacos.

A debreceni alakulat fogadta a Bp. Honvéd csapatát szombaton délután.
Unfortunately, the match against Ferencváros did not pass without inevitable changes for DVSC.
In the first half, Balázs Megyeri wasn’t feeling well and had to leave the pitch. Our goalkeeper was taken to the emergency department of SOTE. All his tests were negative, so he could leave the hospital on Sunday. Our player has to undergo some other examinations but he already feels better.
Balázs Dzsudzsák had a wrist facture and was taken to the Military Hospital, where he underwent a surgery during Saturday night. Luckily, our captain could leave the hospital too but his recovery takes some time.
DVSC is grateful for the prompt and professional care of doctors and nurses.
With the support of hundreds of Loki fans, DVSC stepped onto the pitch against champion Ferencváros on Saturday at Groupama Arena, in front of almost a full house. Regarding the podium, it was an important fixture and there was no big surprise concerning our starting eleven. There were some smaller changes as Balázs Dzsudzsák was back and instead of Kevin Varga, Alexandros Kyziridis started the game.
Loki had a great start, by dominating in the first minutes, and in the 2nd minute Christian Manrique headed over the goal after a free kick. Our team was playing in an organized manner, and it could be seen that the players were positioning themselves on purpose. In the 15th minute, Owusu shot wide from 20 meters and a minute later, Balázs Megyeri made a feat and saved Ryan Mmaee’s clear cut chance after a mistake.
In the middle of the first half, FTC was possessing the ball mainly but in the 21st minute Balázs Dzsudzsák had a dangerous shot from 21 meters, which forced Dibusz to punch the ball away. Fifteen minutes before halftime, the goalkeeper of DVSC had to receive extensive medical treatment due to initial suspicions of circulatory disorder. Unfortunately, Balázs Megyeri had to be substituted, and Marko Milosevic took his place.
In the 36th minute, following a beautiful attack, Alexandros Kyziridis slid the ball wide from close range. Then, in the 42nd minute, Ferencváros took the lead. After a right-sided attack, Pászka found himself in a shooting position 16 meters from the goal and curled the ball into the top right corner (1-0). There were a few more chances for the home team before halftime, but no more valid goals were scored.
Kevin Varga and Oleksandr Romanchuk entered the game for the second half, and DVSC tried to resist the attacking moves of Ferencváros, while also seeking to score a goal. In the 51st minute, they came close to doing so but Dorian Babunski’s attempt was blocked. The game was more open and both teams had promising opportunities.
With half an hour remaining, Ádám Bódi also joined the field, and in the 63rd minute, the equalizer came! Dorian Babunski forcefully shot towards the goal, evading the last defender, and rolled the ball into the bottom right corner from 10 meters out (1-1). A new game started with another Loki goal! Following a quick action, Kevin Varga crossed the ball from the right side, it deflected off an FTC defender, and Dorian Babunski tucked it into the net (1-2). After the action, Balázs Dzsudzsák injured his hand and had to be substituted, with Hamzat Ojediran taking his place.
In the beginning of the final minutes, Christian Manrique was fouled inside the box and after a lengthy VAR review, DVSC was awarded a penalty. In the 75th minute, Ádám Bódi stepped to kick the penalty and confidently placed it to the right side of the goal (1-3).
Until 2023, DVSC never won at Groupama Arena, now they had a fantastic comeback and won three points. All praise to them! We will continue next week against Újpest at Nagyerdei Stadium. If Loki wins that match as well, they will be on the podium for sure!
With the eye of an expert
Srdjan Blagojevic: Congratulations to my players for the victory! We deserved this feeling, which is the result of our work during the last 8-9 months. It was a great opportunity to show ourselves. We are not on the podium yet, the match against Újpest may be even more difficult than this was. I hope that Balázs Megyeri and Balázs Dzsudzsák will be back soon.

An important game is ahead of Loki as we will play against the champion Ferencváros in their home stadium, starting at 17:45 on Saturday. The head coach of DVSC, Srdjan Blagojevic commented on the match:
“First of all, congratulations to Ferencváros for winning the championship title. They had a really good season, coming out from the group stage of the Europa League as well. They are the favorite in this game and we know their strength. Even though a tough game is in front of us, we have the right to hope and believe in ourselves. I haven’t said anything about the podium in the previous period but two games before the end, I can declare that we have ambitions. Despite the fact that maybe we had the toughest road because of the schedule, we still have the right to hope and fight. I do not doubt their motivation as they are always motivated when playing against us. Probably, they would like to finish the season with a victory in front of their fans. We respect them and know their strength but we will fight until the end.”
