OTP Bank Liga 2023/2024

Great play, confident victory: DVSC-Fehérvár 3-1

Alexander Mojzis and Joao Oliveira have recovered, and Dusan Lagator, whose dismissal ended, returned to the squad for the championship game against Fehérvár on Sunday. However, Alexandros Kyziridis has been injured recently, so similarly to Meldin Dreskovic and Christian Manrique, he was not able to play. Erik Kusnyir, who celebrated his 100th match in the first division, and Balázs Megyeri, who celebrated his 50th game, were also among the starting eleven.

Before the game, Ragazzi di Buda started in honour of the heroes of the 1956 revolution, many people joined to sing the popular song. The match started with a minute of silence: András Mezei, who was the player of DVSC, passed away recently at the age of 73. DVSC signed András Mezei in January 1968 from Kinizsi in Debrecen. He was the right-back of the team, which won the NB II championship in 1969.

At the beginning of the game, Loki pressed the opponent high, and in the 6th minute, Donát Bárány scored at the end of a beautiful action. Balázs Dzsudzsák made a beautiful pass to Brandon Domingues, who delivered a good cross to the middle and Donát Bárány didn’t make a mistake from close range. The assistant raised his flag for an offside but the VAR ascertained that it was not, so DVSC took the lead (1-0).

Later, Levente Szabó tried to equalize but Balázs Megyeri confidently saved his shot in the 12nd minute, and our team dominated. By the middle of the first half, the game became more equal, and in the 23rd minute, Balázs Dzsudzsák shot wide of the goal from 17 meters.

The game was exciting, both teams gave their best. And the next Loki goal came in the 33rd minute! Donát Bárány took the ball on the right wing, he went on with a nice dribble, made a cross and Brandon Domingues scored from 5 meters (2-0). Thus, Brandon Domingues finished the first half with an assist and a goal, moreover, Stefan Loncar also had a clear-cut chance to score but the goalkeeper saved his shot. The audience could applaud a superbly playing DVSC.

After the break, Fehérvár pulled one back already in the 46th minute, Kodro made a through pass to Levente Szabó, who appeared in a one-on-one situation and rolled the ball next to Balázs Megyeri (2-1). Concerning the image of the game, it was somehow unexpected, but Loki quickly managed to organize its lines. In the 50th minute, Tóth saved another shot of Brandon Domingues, and not long after, Megyeri blocked Kalmár’s powerful shot.

Zsombor Bévárdi came on as a substitute for the last 30 minutes (then Andrija Majdevac, Botond Vajda, Alexander Mojzis and Ádám Bódi also came for the endgame). Stefan Loncar could have scored again in the 61st minute, but the goalkeeper of Fehérvár saved his shot from 11 meters. Then, in the 71st minute, DVSC decided the match: after a quick attack, Stefan Loncar passed the ball to Brandon Domingues, who broke into the box, executed some nice dribbles and shot the ball into the near post (3-1).

No questions were left for the endgame (however, we could have scored more goals in the final minutes), so DVSC earned 3 important points with their good play. We will continue on Saturday in Felcsút.

According to the coach

Srdjan Blagojevic: The most important thing is that we won the match. There was pressure on us because we were not able to win in the last 4 rounds. We lost some easy balls, mainly in the first half, maybe because of this pressure. The leading goal and the second one helped us, but we were shocked when we conceded one after the break. I’m proud of the guys as they could stay stable and we could have scored even more.

Bartosz Grzelak: We didn’t start the match well, we were too slow in decision-making. We were able to change this, we pulled one back but after that we played too openly.
