Scoring with one man down: Kecskemét-DVSC 1-1

After the victory against Győr (3-0), another away game was ahead of our team, playing against Kecskemét on Friday. The technical staff could not count on Erik Kusnyir, Bence Batik, Thor Úlfarsson and Neven Djurasek, who were all returning from injuries. Among the starting XI were Meldin Dreskovic and Soma Szuhodovszki.

At the very beginning of the match, Loki had more possession, while the home team concentrated on being organized in defence, taking the ball and starting quick attacks. Our team stick to the usual tactical way of build-up and play, and made quick counter-attacks when necessary, but still, there were a lot of inaccuracies. In the 10th minute, Kecskemét had their first chance, but the close-range shot of Katona was blocked in the last second. The home team had several corner-kicks in this period of the game, but they didn’t score.

By the middle of the first half, DVSC took control of the match and took the lead in the 19th minute. Brandon Domingues fought for the ball in the forefront of the box, he dribbled and shot the ball to the top right corner of the goal from 19 meters (0-1). Thus, our winger scored a goal in Kecskemét, just as he did in Győr.

In the remaining time of the first half, it was our team that mostly controlled the game. There were a lot of duels and some minor chances, but neither of the teams could create huge opportunities. However, in the 45th minute, Kersák made a brilliant save to deny the header of Meldin Dreskovic, but then Kecskemét equalized during the extra time. Vágó decided to shoot from 20 meters to the centre and the ball flew unstoppable under the crossbar (1-1).

Márk Szécsi and Tamás Szűcs came on as substitutes for the second half and the fight sharpened. In the 49th minute, Pálinkás hit the crossbar from a few meters, but it was our team that scored in the 53rd minute. After a practiced corner-kick variation, Balázs Dzsudzsák passed to János Ferenczi, who blasted the ball into the left side of the goal. However, the referee disallowed the goal at first for some mysterious reasons. According to the VAR, a foul has been committed during the action. After this, VAR took the main role and János Ferenczi got a yellow card following a collision, which was later upgraded to red. Thus, Loki continued the match with one man down.

For the last 30 minutes, Victor Braga came on to substitute Balázs Dzsudzsák, so he made his first debut in Loki. Our team heroically tried to withstand the home side’s attacks. In the 71st minute, Pálinkás headed wide off the goal, then Yacouba came on and made a good impact. During the high tension in the final minutes, our team held on to the draw, securing a valuable point away from home, even with 10 men.

Reactions of the managers

István Szabó: Our tactics worked well, but we conceded a goal in the first half, which was actually beautiful. However, we had our chances and equalized. In the second half, we played football in a good spirit, but we missed a little extra to win the game.

Srdjan Blagojevic: It was a dramatic match. We didn’t see too much quality on the pitch. Our team’s performance was weak, which was enough for securing only one point. Considering the circumstances, our play and the two VAR situations, fighting was the only option left to us. We did fight after the red card, so I would like to praise my players for that. They are also aware of the fact that if we want to fight for bigger goals, we have to play more bravely and take responsibility. I expect more from my team and I’m waiting for the reaction of the team during the next game. I like the fighting spirit that we showed while playing with one man down.

Hamzat Ojediran leaves DVSC

The French first-division team, Lens has bought Hamzat Ojediran out of his contract, setting a new record transfer fee for our club in terms of foreign players. The 20-year-old Nigerian midfielder arrived at DVSC in February 2023. Since then, he has shown excessive progress, gradually becoming a key player of the team. During the spring season, he emerged as one of the best players of Loki. Hamzat, the fan favourite midfielder, has played in 31 league matches in red and white, during which he scored 3 goals.

Hamzat Ojediran: “I want to thank the fans for their support, thank you for believing in me, you will always be part of me. Hajrá, Loki!”

Ojediran is not the first player who signs to Lens as our two-time top scorer, Adamo Coulibaly also transferred to France in 2013, where he scored 10 goals in two seasons. RC Lens is a prominent team in one of Europe’s top leagues, having won the title in 1998, and reaching the semi-finals in international cup competitions. Last season, they also secured a spot in the Conference League. Earlier, notable players, such as El-Hadji Diouf, Seydou Keita, Vladimír Šmicer and Didier Six have also worn the jersey of Lens.

Welcome to Loki!

A great victory in the league opener: Győr – DVSC 0-3

On Friday evening, Loki started the 2024/25 championship at the home of Győr as the first-round match against FTC has been postponed to December. The technical staff could not count on the injured Erik Kusnyir, Bence Batik, Thor Úlfarsson and Neven Djurasek, while Christian Manrique was suspended because of a previously earned red card. However, among the starting XI were the recovered Jorgo Pellumbi, the summer signing of Loki, Arandjel Stojkovic as well as the 19-year-old Tamás Szűcs.

The match began at a relatively good pace, but only with few well-developed opportunities. Loki strived to play in a tactically disciplined and conscious manner. The dominance of DVSC was clear, however, Győr had the first bigger chance. In the 20th minute, Krivokapic had a clear-cut chance, but Balázs Megyeri made a brilliant save. Shortly afterwards, János Ferenczi fired a long-range shot wide, and then a water break followed in the middle of the first half.

Even though our team maintained their dominance for the rest of the first half, Balázs Megyeri had to perform a save in the 35th minute, when Vera took a shot from 18 meters. The home team had to repair the net after this, resulting in a significant amount of extra time. Our goalkeeper saved another attempt by Krivokapic, so no goals were scored until the break.

The play did not change at the beginning of the second half, Loki had more possession, but Győr was more dangerous. However, after Balázs Dzsudzsák’s corner in the 54th minute, Ruisz had to save the volley shot of Ruisz. In the 55th minute, DVSC took the lead: Donát Bárány passed to Brandon Domingues, who deceived the goalkeeper and shot the ball into the top far corner from a sharp angle on the left side (0-1). From that point on, Loki became more dangerous concerning the goal and scored another goal in the 60th minute. Balázs Dzsudzsák made a nice cross and Donát Bárány headed the ball into the left side of the goal from 7 meters (0-2).

In the last quarter of the match, there were a lot of duels, but our team dominated, however, Dusan Lagator had to make one save from the goal line. Overall, the victory of DVSC was not in danger and after Márk Szécsi’s nice pass, Yacouba Silue converted a one-on-one opportunity, making the success of the team even greater (0-3). Thus, our team started the championship with 3 goals and 3 points.

We will continue next week in Kecskemét.

Reactions of the two managers

Balázs Borbély: We didn’t play badly. In the first half, we managed to do what we’ve planned and we had 3-4 chances. However, this is the difference between the two teams: we didn’t score from 18 shots, while DVSC scored 3 goals from 4 attempts.

Srdjan Blagojevic: I’m happy because it is always good to start the season with a victory, which can give us confidence. I would like to congratulate the players. The 3-0 result may not be realistic considering the play as it was not an easy success. In the second part of the first half, Győr had their own moments, but after the break, we could dominate with our possession. I think that Brandon Domingues’ goal decided the match. The start of the championship is always demanding psychologically, so I can be satisfied with the victory.

Yacouba started his career in the Ivorian first division, where he became champion and Super Cup winner with his team. Besides scoring 9 goals and giving 5 assists in the league, he also scored 1 goal in a cup match, which led him to the Serbian first division. In Serbia, he showed his ability by helping the club to achieve the highest place in the league and now he is coming to Debrecen with a winning mentality.

I’ve gained a lot of positive experience both as a footballer and as a person. I would to like to thank the fans for their support and the fantastic atmosphere that they’ve created at the stadium, which have always meant a huge motivation for us. I’m really grateful to my teammates, who accepted me into this family and supported me even in difficult situations.
I would like to express my gratitude to the president and management of DVSC as well as the coaching staff. I have always had a good relationship with them. Draw in the last practice match in Austria: SV Ried-DVSC 1-1

On Friday, Loki played the final match in the Austrian training camp against Ried. Last year, Ried finished second in the Austrian second division, but earlier, they were cup winners and first division silver medalists. In this match, those players got an opportunity, who had less playing time in the match against Zilina, which ended with a victory for Loki. At the beginning of the match, Ried scored an offside goal and led several dangerous attacks afterwards.

Our team broke out of Ried’s pressure after 10 minutes. In the 16th minute, Christian Manrique’s 15-meter shot was blocked. In the 27th minute, Shaghoyan’s attempt was saved by the goalkeeper of Ried, then Márk Engedi saved a one-on-one opportunity. At the end of the first half, the play was balanced and no goals were scored until the break.

At the beginning of the second half, Loki took on an attacking approach, but didn’t have bigger chances. However, in the 67th minute, the Austrian goalkeeper saved the close-range header of Meldin Dreskovic, after which Márk Engedi had to perform a huge save.

In the final minutes, both teams could have scored, but DVSC took on the lead, when Soma Szuhodovszki made a nice cross and Botond Vajda headed the ball into the right side of the goal (0-1). In the extra time, Ried equalized, thus, the match ended in a draw (1-1).
