A heavy defeat: DVSC – Paks 0-5

Loki hosted Paks, who are currently at the top of the table, on Saturday afternoon at Nagyerdei Stadium. Before the opening match of the 10th round, the management of DVSC greeted Balázs Dzsudzsák on the occasion of his 150th appearance in the first division as well as Dominik Kocsis on his 50th match in NBI. The ceremonial kick-off was performed by Tibor Kiss, the former president of DVSC. This year, Loki joined again the breast cancer awareness campaign of the Holnapom Association. As a result of this, the player escorts wore shirts referring to the cause, while the players of both starting teams wore badges while they entered.

Csaba Máté head coach could not count on Erik Kusnyir, Thor Úlfarsson and Neven Djurasek, who are still doing their rehabilitation. However, Bence Batik was back on track. Among the starting eleven were Yacouba Silue and Márk Szécsi as a right-back.

The match started at a good pace with tough duels, and the first major chance came in the 9th minute for Paks, who took advantage of it. After a headed pass, Vécsei shot into the left side of the goal from 10 meters (0-1). Thus, Loki had to continue from a difficult situation, but the team pushed on. In the 19th minute, after Brandon Domingues’ cross, the defenders were only able to clear the ball with great difficulty.

In the 27th minute, Osváth shot wide off the goal, then in the 32nd minute, Barna Tóth found himself in a one-on-one opportunity, which he did not miss (0-2). In the 38th minute, after Balázs Dzsudzsák’s corner-kick, Bence Batik headed wide off the goal, so our team could not score until the break. Moreover, in the 41st minute, Mezei also scored, shooting the ball into the left corner of the goal from 18 meters (0-3).

Four players came on for the second half: Jorgo Pellumbi, Donát Bárány, Gergő Kocsis and Arandjel Stojkovic. DVSC tried to improve the situation and it mainly meant possession, however, Balázs Megyeri also had to perform several feats.

Due to Brandon Domingues, Loki could create some chances, but in 65th minute, Paks scored for the 4th time. After a corner-kick, Papp headed the ball into the goal from close-range (0-4). In the remaining time, DVSC pushed for a consolation goal, but unfortunately, it was not successful. To make matters worse, Gergő Kocsis was sent off for a handball inside the penalty area. Ötvös converted the penalty, resulting in a heavy defeat for Loki (0-5).

The next match will be away against Székesfehérvár on Saturday.

According to the coach

Csaba Máté: It is hard to evaluate the match because up until now, our matches were decided by small details, but now it was not the case. Paks was much better during the whole match and after 0-2, it felt like some players already gave up. That’s why we made four substitutions in halftime. We must keep working and fighting for each other.

György Bognár: It was a strange day because there is no such big difference between the two teams. It was a very good day for us, while for Debrecen, it was a very bad one, that’s why it ended in a significant victory for us.

Defeat during the endgame: Puskás Akadémia – DVSC 1-0

On Friday evening, DVSC visited Puskás Akadémia, which occupied the second place on the table. Our team could not count on Neven Djurasek, who got injured during the game against MTK, as well as Bence Batik, Erik Kusnyir and Thor Úlfarsson, who were still on rehabilitation. DVSC made a tactical change: our team stood up with three centre-backs in order to prevent the home team from scoring. Márk Szécsi, Gergő Kocsis and Yacouba Silue got a place in the starting XI this time.

The match started with midfield play. Our team played in an organized way, preventing the home team from unfolding. DVSC led several promising attacks and the first smaller chance occurred in the 13th minute, when Meldin Dreskovic shot wide off the goal with a first touch from 16 meters. In the 23rd minute, Maceiras shot over the goal from long range, while in the 27th minute, Meldin Dreskovic had to clear from the goal-line after some turmoil within the box and Nissila’s attempt. Then, Balázs Megyeri saved the close-range shot of Plsek.

The play did not change in the final minutes of the first half. Brandon Domingues shot over the goal, but our team could restrain the opponent, so no goals were scored until the break.

The second half started with Duearte’s shot, but Balázs Megyeri performed a brilliant save. Puskás Akadémia increased the pressure and scored an offside goal, but our team handled it well. In the 51st minute, Yacouba Silue shot wide off the goal from a sharp angle on the right, then Márk Szécsi’s shot was blocked.

The battle intensified in the last half hour. Donát Bárány and Soma Szuhodovszki came on as substitutes, followed later by Botond Vajda. In the 68th minute, after a defensive bundler, Donát Bárány found himself in a scoring opportunity, but he shot over the goal. During the endgame, both teams tried to decide the match with a goal. In the 88th minute, Donát Bárány made a header, but the ball bounced off the post. However, in the 89th minute, the home team scored with Golla’s header, which bounced into the right corner of the goal. DVSC would have deserved at least one point.

According to the coach

Zsolt Hornyák: It was a very difficult match and our opponent made things hard for us. This was one of our most complicated games due to the tactics of DVSC. I was surprised that Loki came to Felcsút to defend. Fortunately, we were able to win in the end.

Csaba Máté: We arrived here after two defeats. We conceded 3 goals in both games, so our plan was to focus more on defence. As a result of this, Puskás had less chances than they usually do, and we also had a chance to score. At the end, the ball bounced off the post in case of our attack, while on the other side, it bounced into the net, but I don’t want to say that it was only because of luck. We have to work even harder. I feel sorry because we put a lot of work in this game, but we could not earn any point.

No points this time: DVSC-MTK 2-3

On Sunday evening, DVSC hosted MTK in the first home game, led by Csaba Máté’s coaching staff. Erik Kusnyir, Bence Batik and Thor Úlfarsson, who are still doing the rehabilitation, were out of the squad, but the rest of the team was very motivated before the important game.

The match was preceded by moments of celebration. Fifteen years ago, after eliminating the Swedish and Estonian champions and securing an away victory, DVSC also won in the home leg against the Bulgarian Levski Sofia (2-0), performing a huge feat by advancing to the group stage of the Champions League. In the group stage, our club’s heroes played against teams, such as the English Liverpool, the Italian Fiorentina and the French Lyon. On this occasion, the management of DVSC honored the Champions League team at Nagyerdei Stadium together with the fans. Apart from Ferencváros, Debrecen is the only Hungarian team that have reached the group stage of the Champions League. Every player and staff member from that time received a well-deserved applause. In addition, our winger Brandon Domingues was also greeted on the occasion of his 50th appearance in the Hungarian first division.

MTK started the match better, and in the 3rd minute, Bognár shot over the goal. Then Loki took control of the game for a short period of time: in the 5th minute, Donát Bárány shot just wide off the goal from 12 meters. In the 14th minute, Neven Djurasek got injured and Victor Braga substituted him. In the 18th minute, Balázs Megyeri made a brilliant save to deny Jurina’s header, then Demjén saved Balázs Dzsudzsák’s shot.

MTK had more possession and in the 33rd minute, they took the lead: Jurina shot the ball into the bottom left corner from 13 meters (0-1). However, DVSC could equalize in the 41st minute. After Balázs Dzsudzsák’s free-kick, Dominik Kocsis turned and shot the ball into the bottom right corner from 12 meters (1-1).

Brandon Domingues came on for the second half. In the 48th minute, Balázs Dzsudzsák’s shot was saved by Demjén. Both teams had chances, but it was MTK that scored the second goal. In the 59th minute, after a great individual performance and two dribbles, Bognár fired the ball into the bottom right corner from 16 meters (1-2).

Loki tried to make a comeback in the final minutes, but meanwhile, Balázs Megyeri saved a clear-cut chance. Demjén saved the free-kick of Balázs Dzsudzsák from close-range. Yacouba Silue and Zhirayr Shaghoyan came on as substitutes. In the 76th minute, we equalized: Silue advanced on the right, he made a great cross and the arriving Tamás Szűcs scored a huge goal from 14 meters (2-2). It was the first goal of our midfielder in the first division and Debrecen as well.

In the final minutes, DVSC gained a numerical advantage after Varju, who hit Brandon Domingues, was sent off by the referee. However, in the 86th minute, Hej, who came on as a substitute, scored a spectacular goal from the right into the far corner (2-3), sealing the fate of the match.

The next match will be away against Puskás Akadémia on Friday.

According to the coach

Csaba Máté: We’re over another painful defeat and we lost 3-2 again. We conceded goals out of stupid, irresponsible mistakes. We scored 4 goals in 2 games, but in vain. There was a lot more in this game, it could have been the other way around, but as long as we are defending like this, we will be punished at this level.

Dávid Horváth: It was a great football experience. We started the game with the proper attitude, which was necessary for our success and even after that, we played well in all aspects. We had one great period after the break as well, so we could win against a good opponent in a good match.

Defeat in the derby: Nyíregyháza-DVSC 3-2

On Saturday evening, Loki played against Nyíregyháza in the new Városi Stadium. For the fans, it was the most anticipated clash of the autumn season. Due to the classic derby, there was a full stadium and the two teams faced each other after a decade in the first division. More than 1000 fans from Debrecen travelled to Nyíregyháza to cheer for the team. It was the first league match of the new coaching staff, led by Csaba Máté, during which the coach could not count on Erik Kusnyir, Thor Úlfarsson and Bence Batik. All the other players were part of the squad and the starting line-up was the same as the one against Békéscsaba.

The match started in a frenetic atmosphere and in the first minutes, both teams played in a cautious manner. Loki then took control of the game and in the 8th minute, even took the lead. After Dzsudzsák’s corner-kick, Márk Szécsi’s shot deflected, but Jorgo Pellumbi collected the ball and shot it into the right side of the goal from a sharp angle (0-1).

After the goal, Megyeri had to deny Kovácsréti’s shot as the home team quickly tried to equalize. There were a lot of duels, the match was good with several chances. In the 19th minute, Dominik Kocsis’ shot was blocked within the box, then Nyíregyháza equalized. In the 23rd minute, after a right-sided cross on the long side, Barnabás Nagy arrived and fired the ball under the bar (1-1).

Until the break, both teams had some chances, while the fight sharpened. In the 36th minute, the home team scored one more goal: Navratil broke away on the right side, he dribbled inside, then shot and the ball deflected off a defender and dropped into the net (2-1). In the 45th minute, Balázs Dzsudzsák fired a shot from 19 meters, but Tóth made a brilliant save and punched it above the bar. Thus, the team went on halftime with Nyíregyháza leading.

Brandon Domingues came on for the second half and Loki tried to press the home team, but meanwhile, the opponent was also dangerous. We were dominating, but could not create bigger chances. Thirty minutes before the end, Arandjel Stojkovic and Botond Vajda came off the bench. However, in the 65th minute, Nyíregyháza scored another goal: Navratil freely went inside the box, he passed Balázs Megyeri and scored from close-range (3-1).

From that point on, it was very hard and in the meanwhile, Neven Djurasek and Yacouba Silue came on. In the 78th minute, DVSC was awarded a penalty as a defender touched the ball with his hands within the box after Donát Bárány’s header. Balázs Dzsudzsák converted the penalty (3-2), so the endgame promised to be exciting.

In the final minutes, both teams gave everything they could, however, the result did not change and it ended in a defeat.

The next match will be next Saturday against MTK at Nagyerdei Stadium.

According to the coach

Krisztián Tímár: It was a tough match, which we expected. The team reacted well when the opponent took the lead, showing that we are resilient. We had more chances, so anyway we had to win this game.

Csaba Máté: The match started well. We took the lead and could have doubled our advantage, but we made mistakes, which were not acceptable at this level. It’s hard to win a game with such mistakes. We understand that the fans are disappointed.

Confidently going through in the cup: Békéscsaba-DVSC 0-4

On Sunday evening, DVSC clashed with the second-division Békéscsaba away for a spot among the top 32 in the MOL Hungarian Cup. It was the first competitive match of the new coaching staff, led by Csaba Máté. The head coach could not on Erik Kusnyir and Thor Úlfarsson, who were still doing the rehabilitation. Due to injury and disease, Bence Batik, Botond Vajda and Brandon Domingues were also out of the squad. Our team faced the battle on the heavy pitch with the support of several hundred Debrecen fans.

At the beginning of the match, Loki took control of the game and in the 3rd minute, Balázs Dzsudzsák found himself in a scoring position, but the ball bounced in front of him, so he couldn’t strike it well. In the 5th minute, Balázs Megyeri made a brilliant save to deny a close-range header. Then, DVSC took the lead! After Balázs Dzsudzsák’s corner-kick in the 10th minute, there was some turmoil, but Donát Bárány was alert and scored from 6 meters (0-1).

Our team maintained the dominance in the following minutes as well. In the 18th minute, Márk Szécsi shot just wide off the goal, just like Donát Bárány did not long after that. However, in the 26th minute, Balázs Dzsudzsák didn’t miss the target: he scored a beautiful free-kick goal into the left side of the net from 25 meters and thus, doubled the advantage of Loki (0-2). After that, the game was more about duels and no further goals were scored until the break.

The second half started with Donát Bárány’s shot, which was saved by Póser. The home team also tried create some opportunities, but Loki controlled the game. In the 54th minute, Donát Bárány could have scored, but he missed the target from close-range. Nevertheless, in the 56th minute, he didn’t miss the opportunity! Our striker arrived in the perfect moment to meet a cross from the left side and headed the ball into the net from the edge of the six-yard box (0-3). Thus, the qualification of DVSC to the next round was decided, but our team didn’t stop attacking. During one of our attacks, Dominik Kocsis was fouled inside the box. In the 64th minute, Donát Bárány converted the penalty and scored a hat-trick (0-4).

Soma Szuhodovszki and Victor Braga came on as substitute for the final minutes. Not long after, Neven Djurasek, Yacouba Silue and Arandjel Stojkovic also came on. DVSC confidently won and went through in the cup. The next match will be against Nyíregyháza next Saturday in the championship.

According to the coach

Sándor Csató: Congratulations to Debrecen. We did our best, but we need to improve our defence and be more effective in converting our chances.

Csaba Máté: I’m really happy for the victory. Most of the things on the pitch happened according to our will. We wanted to create chances and score goals, and we succeeded in doing so.

DVSC signed an experienced defender

DVSC signed Gergő Kocsis, who was a regular player of MTK in the previous season. The 30-year-old player can be deployed both as a defender and a defensive midfielder. He has significant experience, with nearly 200 appearances in the first division, and has tested himself in the leagues of different countries.

Gergő Kocsis was raised at the youth teams of MTK and moved to Germany at a young age, first to Stuttgart, then to Ausburg, before making his debut in the Hungarian first division in the colours of Videoton. The multiple-time youth international, who has also been called up to the senior national team, later played for Puskás Akadémia, Diósgyőr, ZTE and Mezőkövesd. He also played abroad at the Slovakian DAC, the Czech Karviná and the Polish Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała.

“I’m glad for this opportunity and I’m also excited as I continue my career at a really serious team and one of the most prestigious Hungarian clubs. I hope that we will be successful together. I think that I will easily fit into the team as I already know many players from the national teams. I believe that I will be able to help the team in defense. Ferencváros is the favourite in the championship this year as well, but a team like Loki will not go onto the pitch with a white flag against them. We have to give our best and I would be happy if we could participate in international cups,” said Gergő Kocsis to dvsc.hu.

Welcome to DVSC!
