OTP Bank Liga 2024/2025

A well-deserved and confident victory with Bárány’s hat-trick: DVSC-Diósgyőr 4-1

After the important victory over Kecskemét, DVSC hosted the well-performing Diósgyőr on Saturday evening at Nagyerdei Stadium. The ultras of DVSC and DVTK arrived at the match in a joint march, symbolizing friendship. Donát Pálfi, who made his debut in the previous round, saved the goal of Loki again, while Soma Szuhodovszki was among the starting XI.

The match started at a vivid pace, the play was dynamic. In the 12th minute Loki created the first dangerous chance, when Amos Youga unleashed a powerful shot from 19 meters, but it went just wide off the goal. However, in the 17th minute, the opponent took the lead. After a short back pass, Edomwonyi converted the one-on-one opportunity, he dribbled Pálfi and rolled the ball into the net (0-1).

In the next minutes, the goalkeeper of Diósgyőr saved Botond Vajda’s shot, the in the 21st minute, Odincov made a brilliant save to deny Brandon Domingues’ close-range shot. Then, in the 25th minute, Loki equalized: after a cross into the middle, Donát Bárány found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and didn’t miss from close range (1-1). DVSC dominated in the following minutes as well, our team was continuously attacking (Malinov and Bárány also tried), but no more goals were scored until the break. In the first half, the touches inside the opponent’s box were 24 to 1 in favour of Loki.

The 2nd half also began and continued with the dominance of Debrecen. In the 52nd minute, Debrecen scored a second goal: Donát Bárány turned brilliantly past his defender and fired into the net from 13 meters out (2-1). It was the tenth goal of our homegrown striker in this season. Thus, DVSC came from behind, but it was well deserved.

In the 55th minute, DVSC scored a third goal: Amos Youga made a sensational pass, then Brandon Domingues dribbled through the defender and scored from a few meters out (3-1). Therefore, the fate of the three points was decided and Loki won against Diósgyőr after 5 years. Our team has been unbeaten for three rounds, won the last two matches and stepped out of the relegation zone. The last thirty minutes were also eventful: firstly, Donát Pálfi made a brilliant save, then in the 63rd minute, Tiehi made a shot, which hit the post. Tamás Szűcs came off the bench (later Maurides, Gergő Kocsis, Balázs Dzsudzsák and Neven Djurasek as well). In the 68th minute, Donát Bárány was fouled within the box and Loki was awarded a penalty. Bárány confidently converted the penalty and scored his third goal in the match (overall, he has already eleven goals).

In the endgame, no more goals were scored. DVSC played well, so it was a confident and well-deserved victory. The next match will be next Sunday away against Újpest.

According to the coach

Nestor El Maestro: The most important thing is that we are above the line again and our destiny is in our hands. We have two stay with two feet on the ground as we need more victories. In this match, we had the best result and showed the best performance.

Valdas Dambrauskas: Congratulations to Debrecen, they deserved to win. I would to apologize to our fans, we showed our worse face and nothing went our way. We had problems and could not start with the best starting XI, but I don’t want to use them as an excuse.
