DVSC took to the pitch in a true derby atmosphere in the 3rd round of OTP Bank Liga, hosting their ancient rivals Nyíregyháza on Sunday afternoon. Our young homegrown player, Balázs Sain was named in the starting XI, while Ákos Szendrei was supported in attack by captain Balázs Dzsudzsák, with Vilmos Dénes and Flórián Cibla providing width from the wings.

The match started at a good pace, with both sides registering an attempt early on. In the 6th minute, Plamen Andrejev saved Mátyás Katona’s effort, while Vilmos Dénes failed to find the target at the other end. The tension was palpable, with both teams battling fiercely for every ball.

In the 20th minute, Dénes Vilmos found the net after a quick attack and a pass from Balázs Dzsudzsák, but the goal was ruled out for offside. There were plenty of misplaced passes, although both sides produced some excellent moments of play. Overall, there were only a few clear-cut chances, but the match remained exciting, with something happening on the pitch almost constantly. In the 32nd minute, Bálint Katona curled an effort just wide, and the teams went into half-time without any goals.

At the beginning of the second half, mainly DVSC enjoyed possession of the ball. Nyíregyháza threatened through Hős, who came on as a substitution, but Plamen Andrejev saved his effort. In the 55th minute, Bence Batik fired at goal while falling after a corner, with his effort narrowly missing the target. But moments later, there was no stopping for DVSC: Vilmos Dénes delivered an excellent cross from the left, and Balázs Dzsudzsák got ahead of the goalkeeper to glance the ball into the net from close range and give DVSC the lead (1-0).

In the next minutes, Dávid Patai came off the bench, followed later by Kaye Shedrach, Sohan Baldoni, Botond Vajda and Rotem Keller. DVSC remained in control and managed the game well as we played with discipline, determination and great commitment, and deservedly held the lead. Loki maintained their advantage in the closing stages—indeed, they could have extended it on several occasions—and ultimately secured a valuable and important victory.

The next match will be away against Copenhagen on Wednesday, starting from 6 pm. in Denmark.

Gert Remmel: Everyone knew how important this match was. It was only a matter of time before we were able to maintain the right level of performance for 90 minutes, and we managed to do that today. I’m particularly pleased that we kept a clean sheet, and the substitutes also made a positive impact when they came on.

Tamás Bódog: It was a painful defeat, and I feel sorry for our supporters. We chased the game after going behind, but we couldn’t find a goal. Our realistic objective remains to secure our place in the league.
