DVSC continued the championship at the home of Paks, a team that was currently on the podium in the table. Due to injuries, Amos Youga, János Ferenczi, Erik Kusnyir, Bence Batik and Yacouba Silue were out of the squad, however, Brandon Domingues was back after his suspension. For the first time among the starting XI was the recently signed Swedish player of Loki, Henrik Castegren.
At the beginning of the game, Paks tried to put pressure on Loki, but our team did not allow the home team to create serious chances. A few minutes later, DVSC also led some dynamic attacks, however, in the 11th minute, Krisztián Hegyi had to save the attempt of Ötvös. It was a tough fight, but the goals weren’t in danger until the 23rd minute, when Szappanos saved Donát Bárány’s close-range curl. Not long after, Maurides curled the ball, but it went just wide off the goal.
In the second part of the 1st half, the play was balanced and there were lots of duels. In the 31st minute, Soma Szuhodovszki headed wide off the goal at the end of a great action. In the 33rd minute, the referee awarded a penalty for Paks when Lenzsér went down inside the box next to Brandon Domingues. Martin Ádám converted the penalty (1-0). In the 38th minute, Silye also found the net with a long-range shot, blasting the ball under the crossbar from 13 meters out (2-0). Thus, the home team went on a break with a significant advantage.
Balázs Dzsudzsák came on for the 2nd half and Loki was pushing for a comeback. In the 51st minute, Kristiyan Malinov shot over the goal from 17 meters and by that time, our team already had more possession of the ball. Dominik Kocsis also came on, but for some time, the home goalkeeper didn’t have to make any saves.
Then, in the 64th minute, we managed to pull one back! After a corner, Brandon Domingues arrived at the far post and slotted the ball into the net from close-range (2-1). The game became close again, but in the meanwhile, Krisztián Hegyi had to perform a feat in order to deny Ádám’s one-on-one opportunity. In the 70th minute, Loki equalized! After a great free-kick from Balázs Dzsudzsák, Maurides headed the goal into the net from 7 meters (2-2). In the 73rd minute, Paks reacted. Könyves, who came on as a substitute, curled the ball into the far corner from 12 meters (3-2).
DVSC tried everything in the final minutes, but could not equalize. Moreover, in the 89th minute, Könyves converted his one-on-one opportunity and secured the tree points for the home team. Maurides’ fine header was merely a consolation goal (4-3).
The next match will be on Sunday against Fehérvár at Nagyerdei Stadium.
According to the coach
György Bognár: The final score doesn’t fully reflect the game; we could have won by a larger margin. It was a well-deserved victory.
Nestor El Maestro: Once again, we were competitive against our opponent, regardless of their position in the table. We had both good and bad periods during the match, but in the end, we couldn’t secure any points. We need to change this quickly as there are only 12 matches left.
