Our midfielder, Ádám Bódi, celebrated a wonderful jubilee, making his 300th appearance for DVSC (NB I, NB II) in the championship game against Zalaegerszeg. In 2012, he won the championship undefeated with Loki and also made his debut in the Hungarian national team as our player. We had a conversation with the three-time Hungarian champion, three-time cup winner, two-time Super Cup winner, one-time League Cup winner, championship bronze medalist and last but not least, winner of the Zilahi Award in 2019.
It is truly an honour to have played so many matches for this prestigious club in Debrecen. When I started playing football as a child, I never imagined that one day I would become part of the historical record of appearances in the NB I for Loki, and it is quite something to have surpassed Norbert Mészáros on this list after the match against ZTE. Lately, I have been paying closer attention to this statistic, which makes me very proud. It has been a long journey with the club, during which we have achieved great successes. We’ll see what the future holds but I hope to increase this number with many more clashes.
Ádám Bódi made his debut for the senior team of DVSC in May 2010, in a match against Vasas that ended with a 3-0 victory for Debrecen, playing 90 minutes on the field.
András Herczeg was the head coach of the team, and he dedicated a lot of time to my career and personal development too. However, I would also like to mention two of my former coaches, Sándor Kolozsi and Csaba Sándor, to whom I am also deeply grateful. During the week leading up to the match, coach Bandi gently hinted that it’s likely for me to be in the starting eleven. Despite telling me not to be nervous, I couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious. I was glad that I played the entire match, but in my own standards, I didn’t make such a good performance. It was an incredible experience to step onto the field at the Oláh Gábor Street Stadium, especially in front of a full house. Sometimes I still long for that frenetic atmosphere.
As mentioned earlier, you have surpassed Mészáros Norbert in the all-time appearance ranking in the NB I. What is your opinion about becoming one of the iconic figures in the history of DVSC?
It’s a serious achievement to surpass Mészi, with whom we had many shared successes. I won’t catch up to Tibi Dombi in this ranking unless I continue playing here until I’m 38-40 years old but it would be great to reach the second place. Reaching this goal would look good at the end of my career. I’m proud that I was able to play so many games in the ranks of Loki as someone from Debrecen.
Throughout your career, you have undoubtedly been on the pitch with many great players. Who was the person you most enjoyed being on the field with?
From the foreign players, I would like to highlight Adamo Coulibaly, who was the best foreign striker of DVSC that I could play with, as well as Selim Bouadla, who was a left-footed, high-quality playmaking midfielder. There was a great understanding between us, I would still love to play in one team with him. We are great friends with Józsi Varga, we’ve been through a lot together and I also have to mention Jani Ferenczi. We lived very close to each other during our childhood and played a lot of football even before our professional careers. We had some intense matches in the playground among the housing blocks. Péter Szakály is a really good person and was a great captain for Loki, but I would also mention Norbert Mészáros, Mihály Korhut and Tamás Kulcsár.
It’s worth noting that Ádám Bódi also performs well on the all-time top scorer list of Loki in the Hungarian first division, currently standing at the 9th position with 45 goals.
