DVSC took to the field in Kisvárda in the 5th round of OTP Bank Liga. In addition to the injured players, Bence Batik was also missing due to suspension. Once again, several young academy graduates were included in the starting XI, such as Gergő Tercza, Dávid Patai and Flórián Cibla.

Around 300 fans travelled to Kisvárda to support Loki and all tickets for the away section had sold out. At the start of the match, the home side quickly caused some danger in front of the DVSC goal. In the 2nd minute, Jordanov fired over the bar while sliding in. After Kisvárda’s early pressure and the opening 10 minutes, the game became more evenly balanced. Our team won several set pieces, but these failed to create any significant goal-scoring opportunities.

In the 19th minute, Matanovic’s shot was blocked by the defence of Debrecen, and then, in the 22nd minute, Plamen Andreev produced a brilliant save to deny Jordanov’s close-range header. At the other end, Adrian Guerrero’s deflected shot caused some concern in the 25th minute as the game began to pick up pace. In the 28th minute, Balázs Dzsudzsák’s close-range effort was saved by Popovics. However, as half-time approached, neither goal was under much threat and the teams went into the break without any goals.

The second half began with a series of Kisvárda corners, before Vilmos Dénes fired just wide of the bottom-right corner in the 51st minute. In response, Plamen Andreev was tested by Szikszai’s powerful effort, but managed to make the save. Our goalkeeper produced an even more impressive stop in the 58th minute, tipping Jordanov’s powerful 15-metre effort over the bar and behind for a corner.

At the beginning of the final half an hour, Kisvárda missed a clear-cut chance as the ball flashed across the forefront of the goal in front of Jordanov. Loki then made a substitution, with Julien Dacosta coming on, followed later by Kaye Shedrach and Botond Vajda. Early in the closing stages, Szikszai received a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving Loki with a numerical advantage. However, it did not last long: in the 82nd minute, following a VAR review, Ádám Lang was also shown a red card after a duel with Balogun, even though the referee hasn’t blown his whistle for the incident initially.

Neither side was able to create a major chance in the closing minutes, so the match ended in a 0-0 draw. The next match will be against MTK on Friday at Nagyerdei Stadium.

Attila Supka: We played good football, we were just missing that little extra to get the win. We didn’t rush things, we played in a disciplined and aggressive manner and we could have taken all three points.

Gert Remmel: Our positioning wasn’t optimal in the first half, and later on the game often became chaotic. Matches against Kisvárda don’t usually produce many goals, and that was the case again today. We are disappointed with the draw, but after analysing the match tomorrow, we will shift our focus to the next game.
