OTP Bank Liga 2024/2025

The two-goal disadvantage proved to be too much: DVSC-MTK 1-2

Due to the success of Fehérvár and the fight for the podium, Loki was under pressure to win against MTK on Saturday evening at Nagyerdei Stadium. Erik Kusnyir, Jorgo Pellumbi and Thor Úlfarsson were out of the squad due to injuries. What concerns the starting XI, the only change was that Christian Manrique, who scored a goal against Kisvárda, started this time.

Loki had the first clear-cut chance of the match in the 5th minute, when János Ferenczi shot from 11 meters after a corner-kick, but he didn’t find the net. In the 10th minute, Brandon Domingues broke away from the defenders at the end of a nice action, but Demjén managed to block his close-range shot. In the 13th minute, Donát Bárány headed wide off the goal and not long after, Bognár missed a huge opportunity on the other side of the pitch. MTK took the lead in the 16th minute: at the end of a quick attack, Kosznovszky shot the ball into the right corner of the goal from 12 meters (0-1).

Subsequently, Loki managed to control the match at some points, but could not create bigger chances. In the final minutes of the first half, Balázs Megyeri had to perform a huge save to deny Kata’s powerful shot. Loki could not equalize until halftime.

At the beginning of the second half, Donát Bárány headed wide off the goal. Even though our team tried to press their opponent, MTK scored one more goal. In the 50th minute, Horváth shot the ball into the bottom left corner, converting Bognár’s pass (0-2). More than thirty minutes before the end, Stefan Loncar, Soma Szuhodovszki and Ádám Bódi came on as substitutes.

Then, Loki pulled one back! In the 57th minute, Hamzat Ojediran made a through pass to Donát Bárány, who rolled the ball into the net from 13 meters (1-2). Excitement grew as in the 67th minute, Dusan Lagator’s header hit the crossbar and DVSC increased the pressure.

Loki tried everything in the final minutes (Máté Tuboly and Márk Szécsi also came on), while MTK often stalled for time (Demjén made two crucial saves), but we could not equalize.

We will continue next Saturday against Kecskemét at Nagyerdei Stadium.

According to the coach

Srdjan Blagojevic: Congratulations to MTK. If a team can win 3 times against us, that’s not accidental, for sure. It was a dramatic match, typical of Hungarian league matches, during which we saw good attacks and mistakes too. There aren’t many teams in this championship, which can permanently control their performance and unfortunately, it’s true for our team as well. We could have scored 3 goals at the beginning, but we obviously had problems with our defence. We made some changes for the second half, but conceded an early goal again. We increased the intensity, pulled one back and were close to the second goal, but at the end, we could not equalize. It’s a painful defeat for us. Six matches are left and we will fight until the end.

Dávid Horváth: It was a very exciting match, which ended well for us. We performed well in every phase, faced significant pressure at the end, but we fought hard.
