Victory on Megyeri street after a decade: Újpest-DVSC 1-2

After last Saturday’s game against Diósgyőr (2-2) and before this Saturday’s home match against Ferencváros, Loki played in Újpest on Tuesday. The line-up changed according to our expectations (as our team has 3 matches in 1 week), so among the starting eleven were Hamzat Ojediran, Stefan Loncar, Botond Vajda and Thor Úlfarsson, the Icelandic striker who arrived at Loki during the winter. On the day of the match, there was a change of ownership at the home club, so the effect of this fact on the performance of Újpest was unknown.

In the 1st minute of the game, Újpest already appeared in a scoring position but Balázs Megyeri made a brilliant save to deny the 11-meter shot of Kevin Csoboth. The attacks of Újpest lasted for only a few minutes, after which DVSC took control of the game at some parts and tried to maintain this control. Unfortunately, in the 18th minute, Erik Kusnyir got injured, he had to be substituted, so Nimród Baranyai came off the bench.

The first chance for Debrecen came in the 31st minute: Joao Oliveira almost took the ball in front of the goal but at the end, he did not shoot. Until the break, there were no dangerous situations in front of either of the goals, so the match was decided in the second half.

The second half was a bit more eventful. Christian Manrique and Brandon Domingues came off the bench, and Loki tried to maintain possession. However, after a counter-attack in the 48th minute, Tamás Kiss, the player of Újpest, made a shot but the ball didn’t end up in the net.

More than 30 minutes before the end, Jevtoski was sent off the pitch because of a serious fault against Ojediran (at first, the referee gave a yellow but after the VAR-check, he gave a red card). Thus, DVSC was in a numerical superiority from that point on. Due to the advantage, Loki had some chances and in the 69th minute, Balázs Dzsudzsák came on as a substitute.

In the 73rd minute, Banai saved the header of Dreskovic, after which Balázs Dzsudzsák shot wide off the goal. The highly anticipated Debrecen goal finally came in the 78th minute: after János Ferenczi’s great cross, Brandon Domingues headed the ball into the right side of the goal from 6 meters (0-1). During the endgame, Thor’s header was disallowed due to a prior fault and Megyeri made another great save. Moreover, our victory was secured with one more goal: in the 94th minute, Balázs Dzsudzsák made a nice cross and Brandon Domingues scored again (0-2). At the end of the extra time, Újpest was awarded a penalty, which Mörschel converted but it was only a consolation goal.

After 10 years, DVSC could win in Újpest. We will continue on Saturday against Ferencváros.

According to the coach

Nebojsa Vignjevic: The red card decided the match. We didn’t start badly, then the match became more balanced but the red card proved to be too much for us.

Srdjan Blagojevic: It was not the best performance of our team but I’m happy because of the success and the 3 points. The atmosphere at the stadium was really strange, maybe it also had an influence on the players. Erik Kusnyir has a sore knee, examinations are awaiting him.
