OTP Bank Liga 2023/2024

Victory in the rivalry game, Loki in the lead: DVSC-Kecskemét 2-0

On Sunday evening, there was a clash between the bronze and the silver medallist of the previous season, a rivalry game between DVSC and Kecskemét at Nagyerdei Stadium. Botond Vajda and Joao Oliveira were out of the squad because of their injuries, while Andrija Majdevac, the latest signing of DVSC, was not part of the squad yet, but János Ferenczi was sitting on the bench. Among the starting eleven were Oleksandr Romanchuk, Márk Szécsi and Ádám Bódi as well.

It was already obvious at the beginning of the match that both teams were going to have a difficult job, there were some serious duels on the midfield. In the 7th minute, Stefan Loncar a shot over the goal, then Kecskemét scored an offside goal. In the 10th minute, after Donát Bárány’s backheel pass, Balázs Dzsudzsák shot wide from a sharp angle. By the middle of the first half, the play of DVSC became more organized, our team led several nice attacks.

Yet, it was still not easy to get close to the opponent’s box but Kecskemét faced the same problem on the other side of the pitch. In the final minutes of the first half, in the 39th minute, Ádám Bódi shot from a good position but into the goalkeeper’s hands. Not long after, Márk Szécsi appeared in a clear-cut chance but he rolled the ball wide off the goal, then Balázs Megyeri made a brilliant save to deny a header. Thus, the teams went on a break without any goals scored. Before the halftime, Alexander Mojzis got injured, so Meldin Dreskovic came on as a substitute for the second half.

The battle on the pitch continued, players had to fight for the ball. In the 55th minute, Krisztofer Horváth shot over the goal from distance, but overall, mostly DVSC was dominating. Our players put a lot of energy into the game, and in the 59th minute, Stefan Loncar shot wide from 20 meters. Then, in the 62nd minute, Loki took the lead! Donát Bárány got the ball within the box, took it to the baseline, made a nice pass and Loncar confidently converted the clear-cut chance (1-0).

Moreover, in the 66th minute, Loki was leading by two goals! Balázs Dzsudzsák made a through pass to Erik Kusnyír, who dribbled the ball through the midfield and fired a shot into the bottom right corner from 11 meters (2-0). The team had to maintain the concentration but the fate of the game was already decided. DVSC won 4 out of 5 league matches and is leading the table during the international break. Our next game is going to take place on September 16, when we play against Eger in the Hungarian Cup.

According to the coach

Srdjan Blagojevic: Congratulations to my players, they were amazing regarding the tactics and the energy as well. It was one of our best matches since I work in Debrecen. We played against a very good team, leaded by a very good coach. It was a demanding game but we deserved to win. We had an idea, a plan, to which the players stuck until the end, even when we changed. I would to thank the fans for their support and I would like to ask them not to scold when they players do mistakes. We are not the best team, I’m not the best coach but we work hard in order to succeed.

István Szabó: In my opinion, the first half could be considered as equal, there was a good pace and a lot of duels. In the second half, Debrecen imposed their will on us, and we made a few mistakes in positioning. It hurts me that after the break, we lacked creativity in our attacks. DVSC deserved the victory.
