Without Balázs Dzsudzsák, who was suspended due to five yellow cards, as well as the injured József Varga and Bence Sós, but with János Ferenczi in their ranks, DVSC stepped onto the pitch on Saturday afternoon against Honvéd at Nagyerdei Stadium. Before the match, the managing director Balázs Makray greeted Márk Szécsi and Donát Bárány in honour of their 150th and 50th championship games in Debrecen.
At the beginning of the game, DVSC immediately took an attacking approach. In the 4th minute, Alexandros Kyziridis curled the ball but missed it from 17 meters, and in the 6th minute Szappanos saved Dorian Babunski’s clear cut chance. Our team played with a strong dominance, while Honvéd focused mainly on defense.
It felt like the goal was coming for Debrecen but it didn’t. In the 32nd minute, after János Ferenczi’s header, Dorian Babunski was in a scoring position, he shot from close range but it went too high. Then, in the 40th minute, the goalkeeper of Honvéd saved Christian Manrique’s 16-meter attempt. The ball possession and skilful passing did not translate into a goal before halftime, and the teams went into the dressing room with a 0-0 scoreline.
In the second half, Loki was still possessing and attacking but could not break through the opponent’s defense. In the 59th minute, Szappanos easily saved Stefan Loncar’s shot, and on the other end, Balázs Megyeri performed a feat to save the close pin of Kerezsi. In the last 30 minutes, Donát Bárány and Antonia Mance entered the field (followed shortly by Ádám Bódi, and in the end, Márk Szécsi), so DVSC attempted to score with two strikers from that point on.
At the beginning of the final minutes, in the 72nd minute, the visitor’s goalkeeper managed to block Bárány Donát’s diving header, then came the endgame, which brought excitement but no goals, so it stayed a draw. We will continue next week in the home of Ferencváros.
With an expert eye:
Srdjan Blagojevic: I am not satisfied as we didn’t win but I cannot say anything bad about the team’s efforts. We had some good moments but we could earn only one point. This was our fourth match in a row without conceding a goal.
Dean Klafuric: We earned an important point in the home of a really good team. Congratulations to my players, we were well-organized. We played a good match.
