On this late-August Friday evening, DVSC hosted MTK at Nagyerdei Stadion in the sixth round of OTP Bank Liga. Head coach Gert Remmel could not count on the injured players as well as Ádám Lang and Bence Batik due to suspension. Among the starting XI was the 17-year-old academy graduate Dénes Szakál, making his debut, and our young players, Gergő Tercza, Dávid Patai and Flórián Cibla also started the match.

Ádám Lang reached a special milestone at DVSC. Our 33-year-old, 70-time Hungary international joined Debrecen in January 2025 and has since become a key member of our defence, consistently helping the team with outstanding performances. Last week, our defender made his 50th league appearance for DVSC in Kisvárda. We warmly congratulate Ádám Lang on the achievement and before the match, sporting director Ádám Bogdán also congratulated him on the pitch.

In the opening minutes, both teams tried to press their opponents high up the pitch, and the first chance fell to Loki. In the 6th minute, Balázs Dzsudzsák fired from 17 metres, narrowly missing the top-left corner. Jurek responded with an effort from a similar distance, but Plamen Andrejev saved comfortably. It was an eventful game from the outset, with little chance for anyone to get bored. DVSC won a series of corners, which caused danger but did not produce a goal.

In the 17th minute, MTK were unexpectedly awarded a penalty after Dénes Szakál caught Kerezsi inside the box. Jurek converted from the spot to give the visitors the lead (0–1). Loki tried to equalise quickly, but in the 24th minute, Blaz Boskovic’s header sailed over the bar. Our side were enjoying significant pressure, and in the 30th minute the equaliser arrived. Following a beautiful attacking move involving Balázs Dzsudzsák, Ákos Szendrei and Vilmos Dénes, the ball eventually reached Dénes, who calmly slotted it into the bottom-right corner from eight metres out on the right (1–1).

In the 34th minute, however, MTK were back in front. Bognár’s pass sent Jurek through between the defenders. He failed to make clean contact with the ball at first, but then recovered to roll it into the bottom-left corner from close range (1–2). The visitors therefore went into the break with an advantage.

At the start of the second half, our captain, Balázs Dzsudzsák, once again proved that he should never be written off. In the 47th minute, he unleashed a stunning left-footed strike from 20 metres, sending the ball into the middle of the goal to make it 2–2. Loki maintained their momentum and continued to attack. In the 62nd minute, Vilmos Dénes scored a beautiful goal, but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside.

DVSC continued to dominate proceedings in the final half-hour. In the 65th minute, Flórián Cibla narrowly missed the target with a powerful effort. Our team played good football, creating chances of varying degrees of danger almost every minute, but the third Debrecen goal remained elusive. Kaye Shedrach came on in the 72nd minute, followed later by Leon Myrtaj and Rotem Keller. Loki threw everything forward in search of the winning goal, while MTK also had their opportunities on the counter. However, the long-awaited goal never came, and the match ended in a draw.

The next match will be away agains Paks next Saturday.
