Farewell to the Cup: DVSC-Honvéd 1-2, after extra time

DVSC took the field on Thursday evening at Nagyerdei Stadium to compete for a spot among the best 16 teams in the MOL Hungarian Cup. The opponent of Loki was Honvéd, which is currently in a promotion position in NBII. Márk Szécsi, Bence Batik, Joshua Mejías and Erik Kusnyir were out of the squad, while Julien Dacosta, Vyacheslav Kulbachuk, Fran Manzanara, György Komáromi and Álex Bermejo were in the starting XI.

At the beginning of the match, midfield play dominated. The first chance came in the 9th minute: the goalkeeper of Honvéd made a brilliant save to deny Álex Bermejo’s close-range shot. One minute later, he had to save Julien Dacosta’s header as well. At the other end, Ádám Varga confidently saved Kántor’s attempt. Overall, Loki was dominating.

In the 22nd minute, DVSC took the lead: Tamás Szűcs made a great individual move and passed the ball to Balázs Dzsudzsák, who shot it with his left leg into the bottom left corner from 15 meters (1-0). In the next minutes, the guest team also had their attempts, but they could not create real danger. In the 37th minute, György Komáromi made a shot after a nice dribble, but Dúzs managed to save it. There were some promising attacks until the break, but no goals were scored.

At the beginning of the 2nd half, Ádám Varga saved Gyurcsó’s free-kick, then in the 55th minute, Honvéd equalized. The ball bounced in front of Pauljevic, who shot it into the right corner of the goal from 15 meters (1-1). DVSC had to pick up the pace again and it was a warning that in the 61st minute, Honvéd found the net once more, even if it was from an offside position.

Victor Camarasa and Dejan Djokic came on for the last 30 minutes, then Dominik Kocsis, Dorde Gordic and Amos Youga also came off the bench. Loki tried to take back the initiative for the endgame. Our team managed to do so, but no more goals were scored in regular time, so the game went into extra time.

At the beginning of the extra time, Dejan Djokic headed over the goal and DVSC was dominating. In the 98th minute, the goalkeeper of Honvéd saved the attempt of Dorde Gordic. Our team kept pressing, but the net didn’t ripple. In the second half of extra time, it was almost only Loki that posed any danger, but the goal did not come. In fact, in the 117th minute, the visitors scored through Zuigeber (1-2), thus securing the win and advancing to the next round.

The next match will be against ZTE in the league, starting from 6 pm. at Nagyerdei Stadium.

According to the coach

Sergio Navarro: It is a tough day for us, we wanted to pass to the next round. This is football, in the 2nd half, we did not make good choices. During the extra time, we made a lot of effort, but overall, we did not deserve to advance. Congratulations to Honvéd!

Tamás Feczkó: In the 1st half, Loki was much better and then we changed our defense and showed what we are good at. I’m happy because we have won against a very good team.
