DVSC finished the first third of the league season away against Honvéd. Among the starting XI was the young homegrown player of Loki, Imre Egri as well as Dominik Kocsis and Sergi Samper.
At the beginning of the match, Loki immediately tried to take the initiative and with a lively start of the game. Neither of the teams could create any bigger chances until the 14th minute, when after Balázs Dzsudzsák’s free-kick Ákos Szendrei took the ball, who sent it into the net from 10 meters. Unfortunately, the goal was disallowed due to a handball.

In the next period, Loki continued to dominate. In the 23rd minute, Balázs Dzsudzsák took a free-kick from 25 meters out, but the ball went across the bar. Five minutes later, Dominik Kocsis received a pass from Sergi Samper and broke through on goal, but the Honvéd goalkeeper managed to parry his shot away. Shortly afterwards, Blaz Boskovic headed over the bar, with Debrecen clearly in control of the game. However, despite pushing hard for a goal, the breakthrough did not come before halftime. There were chances, though, and in the 35th minute, Ádám Lang narrowly missed the target.

Vilmos Dénes came on for the second half and Loki tried to convert their chances. Loki finally broke the deadlock in the 54th minute. After a cross from the left by Balázs Dzsudzsák, Blaz Boskovic headed the ball into the middle of the goal from six metres out to make it 0-1. Honvéd immediately looked to respond, but Adrian Guerrero produced an excellent block to deny Pinte’s effort.

Bence Batik and Sohan Baldoni came on for the last 30 minutes, later followed by Flórián Cibla and Dávid Patai, as the battle became increasingly intense. In the 68th minute, Baldoni fired narrowly wide of the left post from 17 metres, before the home goalkeeper saved Ákos Szendrei’s header. Honvéd applied pressure on DVSC in the closing stages in search of an equaliser, but to no avail. Instead, following a turnover in possession, Vilmos Dénes made the most of his one-on-one opportunity to seal all three points for Loki with a 0-2 finish. It was a deserved and valuable victory for Debrecen.
Following the victory over ZTE, our team have also beaten Honvéd. Next up is a Hungarian Cup game away against Csepel on Wednesday.
According to the coach
Maurizio Jacobacci: It was a difficult match, just as we expected. We knew we would be up against a technically gifted opponent, but that wasn’t what made the difference. The key factor was that we lacked the necessary intensity when it came to winning the second balls.
Gert Remmel: We continued where we left off last week. We delivered a good performance, got a good result and showed plenty of commitment. We work hard in training, and competition for a place in the team is fierce.
