ADVANCING IN THE HUNGARIAN CUP: DVSC-GÖDÖLLŐ 2-3

DVSC took to the field on Saturday afternoon away at Gödöllő, playing in NB III with a place in the last 32 of the MOL Hungarian Cup at stake. Once again, several academy graduates were included in the starting XI, including Benedek Erdélyi, Gergő Tercza, Dénes Szakál, Dávid Patai and Imre Egri. Both Egri and Tercza found the back of the net.

As expected, Loki took the initiative early on, and in the 8th minute the home goalkeeper produced an excellent save to deny Imre Egri’s volley. Breaking down Gödöllő’s defence was no easy task, but in the 19th minute DVSC finally succeeded. Rotem Keller’s effort struck the post, causing a scramble in the box, and Imre Egri fired the ball into the net from close range to make it 0–1.

In the next minutes, Tóth denied Bryan Adinany’s header, before Bence Batik headed over from a corner in the 34th minute. DVSC doubled their lead before the break, with Gergő Tercza finding the bottom-left corner from around nine metres out with his left foot after a pass from Blaz Boskovic in the 36th minute (0–2).

Jocelyn Janneh made his debut for Loki in the second half, while DVSC continued to dominate. In the 53rd minute, Sohan Baldoni’s headed wide, but two minutes later the home side unexpectedly pulled one back. Mertse met a ball delivered from the left and, getting ahead of everyone, turned it into the net from close range (1–2).

The outcome was therefore still up in the air, and in the 68th minute Gödöllő drew level. Following a mistake, Balog broke through into a one-on-one situation and made no mistake with his chance (2–2). The contest became increasingly intense as the minutes ticked by, with our side stepping up the pressure and creating plenty of opportunities. In the end, DVSC found the winning goal: in the 90th minute, Ákos Szendrei produced a superb header into the left side of the goal to make it 2–3.
